Give Your Home an Instant 2022 Refresh this Spring with These 6 Tips
Do you hear that sound? The kids playing outside, the gentle breeze rustling the leaves, the birds chirping with a little extra vigor than before.
It’s that time of year again—Spring is nearly here!
We know that this is a popular season to dedicate time to upgrading, cleaning, and organizing our homes. After all, throughout the year we naturally accrue some extra clutter, dust, and perhaps even a bit of disarray. Or maybe we’re just loving the longer days and want to spruce up our space for a little change and a whole new sense of enjoyment.
With these 6 home refresh tips for 2022, you can say goodbye to the short winter days and hello to the bright and sunny afternoons ahead. Move over Spring cleaning, Spring refresh is here!
De-Clutter
The act of decluttering can feel quite small; something we can do little by little as we go about our day. But the truth about decluttering is that it can make a huge impact on the look and feel of our home.
Think about the model homes you enjoy seeing online and in the movies. The clean lines are rarely adorned with knick-knacks and random objects. Items are neatly arranged by size or color and placed, not just for function, but also for aesthetic enjoyment.
This is the magic of decluttering. It is not removing every little thing from our home—these pieces can often be little pieces of our hearts—it is about arranging these items properly for their purpose and their design.
Starting with smaller sections of the home is often the best way to approach decluttering. You could begin with the magnets on the fridge. For example, instead of just placing your daughter’s most recent artistic masterpiece from kindergarten class on the fridge with a magnet, place it into a magnetic frame for display. Small touches like this can make a big difference in the look of your home. You can also work on things like cabinets and drawers and, when you’re ready, tackle larger projects like the closets and garage.
Wherever you begin, you will see as the process progresses that decluttering your home can make a massive difference in its appeal and the way you feel while sheltered by it’s walls.
Rearrange Your Furniture
Our personal favorite thing to do to refresh the space in a home is to rearrange the furniture. This costs nothing and doesn’t typically take much time—just a bit of elbow grease and imagination.
If you are working from home and find yourself glancing to the left to see out the window from your desk frequently, then simply move your desk in front of the window so you have a direct view out. You can also try angling your area rugs, changing table positioning, and moving that bookshelf to the other room. If a room feels a bit cluttered or cramped, you can try removing furniture pieces that are bottom-heavy and rarely get used.
Turn that empty corner into a reading nook, or update the photographs on your walls with the most recent holiday photos. Whatever you do, don’t be afraid to get creative here—you can always move things back to the way you were (or try a different arrangement) if you don’t like it.
Brighten Up Your Space
Brightening up your home is easy with a few simple accessories. Large mirrors are great because they serve a dual purpose; they can make your space look larger and reflect sunlight around the space, instantly brightening it up with more natural light.
And nothing says “refreshed” quite like some new, thoughtfully placed houseplants. Some floating shelves with plants of various heights can be pleasing to the eye, or try vertical plants for a modern touch. If you have pets or young children, you will want to be sure they are non-toxic, but otherwise, a carefully hung fern or large leafed tree in the corner can do a lot to lift and brighten any room in your home.
Change Up Your Décor
Ever wonder how the film industry is able to use the same set over various shows, and make it look completely different? Enter: décor! One of the simplest ways to change up the look and feel of your home is to change out some of the décor that doesn’t bring you quite as much joy anymore with some new pieces to bring a fresh feel.
Blues, yellows, and grays are great milder colors to incorporate for a soft, elevated feeling, while warmer reds, oranges, and deep greens are ideal for a cozy vibe. Add some new throw pillows or a light blanket, swap out your duvet cover, change your bathroom rugs, switch the kitchen towels, and add some new, statement-piece lamps. Or even consider bringing in an interior designer who can take your lifestyle and design preferences into account as they redesign your space.
Paint an Accent Wall (or More)
Painting your home, a frequented room, or even just an accent wall can do a lot to give a new, fresh feeling to your space. You can completely change the mood of a room by changing the color of the walls (or even the ceiling).
Make a statement with a vibrant color that contrasts the rest of your home or choose something in the same color family for a smoother transition with an elegant touch. Whatever you choose, some well executed paint can really pump up the look and feel of any space in your home.
Upgrade your Garden
Our outdoor spaces are treasured parts of our home, and they shouldn’t be neglected when it comes time to Spring refresh. Tending to our overgrown plants, adding new plants to withstand desert weather, and adding mulch, woodchip, or stone accents can make even a neglected yard look brand new. Make your yard your own personal desert oasis and enjoy the peace it brings every day.
